Week 36

This has been an interesting week. Some good, some bad. Nothing earth shattering. My mother has been in Florida for the past week with Nana, which meant she was not at our meeting this past Thursday when they put up the list of hotels for the convention. I had totally forgotten about this and we need somewhere to stay. Our convention is about 2 1/4 hours away and most of the hotels are farther away than that. Of course, our meeting being Thursday night, everywhere we called (and by "we" I mean Lenny) was booked. We did not call every single place on the list, but we gave up for now. Friends of ours live in VT so we are looking into if we can stay there. They are about 50 min. away from the convention site (most of the hotels are at least 1/2 hour away). I just can't imagine how it's all going to go with a 4 1/2 month old baby. I also asked Lenny to call his sister and see when their convention is because their convention is at Jersey City Assembly Hall which is not far at all from their house. It is about a month earlier than ours.

This past weekend we (and by "we" I mean mostly Lenny) worked on the baby's room, putting more things together like the mobile on the crib, and "we" put the Pack n' Play together to see what that's all about. It's very cute, but rather large. I can't really see putting a newborn baby in there, even with the bassinet insert, so we're onto Plan B or C at this point. Still haven't made it back to Target to return our duplicate gifts. We were going to go Sunday, but Saturday night I stayed up way too late debating on if I should take advantage of some items on sale on target.com. I had a one-time only additional discount code for things on my registry so I was trying to figure that all out and then when I finally decided to go for it, it was giving me trouble with the gift cards. Lenny eventually took over and finally got it to work and of course the next day I got another e-mail, basically extending the same home sale. Cest la vie. So Sunday I was exhausted. I need to be psyched for Target, especially dealing with returns. We stayed home and watched more football.

Monday morning I actually woke up at a decent time, feeling refreshed, and even got to work earlier than my usual (which is late). By the end of the day, I definitely felt like my belly was lowering, so that was kind of exciting. Tuesday I woke up with an acid reflux type feeling in my throat and mild nausea which stayed with me most of the day. I didn't even feel like eating, but I did, and finally felt better after I made scrambled eggs around 2:00. We had the (now) weekly visit with the CNM at 4:30. My strep test was negative, and she did say the baby was low in my pelvis. That was about it. She checked the heartbeat, said I was still measuring small (whatever lady), and told me that Dr. Wilson will do the waterbirth for her patients if I do happen to go into labor while she is away. I forgot to ask if she sees any benefit to having a written birth plan (I keep reading about this, but it seems unecessary to me) and I'm also curious as to what most people wear in the tub if they do have a water birth (but I guess I can look into this more myself). She also told me I might as well keep working for now, so here I am.

We went to Chili's for dinner, neither of wanting to think about cooking or dishes, and I ate a lot (another sign that the baby is lowering?), then came home and ate some more, then had a pretty lousy night's sleep, even after a papaya mint tablet and a TUMS. At least I'm on a M, W, F work schedule, which means I have tomorrow off again.

  1. i had a birth plan and followed none of it. it was totally useless.

i've seen women wear bikini tops and tank tops in birthing pools. hope that helps a little.

what else do you need for baby?

  2. I understand about convention rooming. This is the first time we've had to book a room since we've been married (25 years). All the other times we got rooms because of being Bethelites or the convention was close enough to drive to. When my sister volunteered to do it, I didn't hesitant one bit to say "OK!" :)

I'm hoping you get to do the water birth. I've never talked to someone who has personally done that, but I've heard good things about it on TV documentaries!

  3. Bradyn was just shy of 3 months when we had our convention. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting. But our convention site is also only 15 mins away. If you don't plan on putting the baby in the crib right away, I wouldn't worry too much about getting the room done at this pt...it can wait until after. We used it for changing, but other than that he didn't sleep in there until he was 6 months. We had him in a regular bassinet next to our bed before that.
