Backtrack

So, back to Labor Day weekend, my aunt and uncle and Nana were flying in from Philadelphia just ahead of Hurricane Earl. This is significant because my aunt is one of those people with a reputation for always going on vacation in the worst possible weather. They had even changed their plans a few times for coming to RI and ended up coming when we were all anticipating a hurricane! Earl turned out to be not that significant, at least not for New England, but many people did take advantage of the wind and waves.

Not a huge water sport enthusiast myself, I chose to commemorate the (non)hurricane with a drink - a Dark N Stormy. Saturday we all (including the baby) went to the local brewery, called, appropriately, Newport Storm, and got these cool glasses with our beer tasting, so that evening I even had the perfect glassware. Very important. Elena was a big fan of the ice cubes.

My aunt and uncle left Monday morning, but Nana stayed for the week. We had fun doing lots of Newport things - a walk on the Cliff Walk, a little shopping downtown, and eating outside at a restaurant. Actually Mom, Dad, and Nana took Elena to a different restaurant where they also ate outside and said it went fine (I stayed home and took a nap). When I was with her at the second restaurant, however, she had a little meltdown and wouldn't settle until I nursed her, and then she promptly fell asleep.

  1. It's my experience(not personally, but observationally) that nurse the baby and the baby sleeps. It's so true that in a fear inspiring way we are wonderfully made.

  2. Yes, I am slightly terrified of what happens when that is no longer an option!

  3. By that time there will be other things available to distract, soothe, and make her sleepy.
