We couldn't even think of having another kid for the first couple years. Our one is a handful and Dr. Sears' book about "high needs" children said to wait at least 3 years. So then the last year has been should we/shouldn't we, with some very strong moments of "shouldn't" in there. There was one particularly challenging weekend for me a few months ago when we were both saying maybe one is enough. And that made me a little sad. I've had a secret "Baby" Pinterest board for a little while now (just in case, ya know) and everything. Very shortly after that emotional weekend I took a test and got this:
So now what? Of course, I met with the sister in upstate NY who does Health Kinesiology and she said everything looked great. I am also definitely firmly in the midwife camp, but I'd heard that my last CNM wasn't delivering at Newport Hospital anymore. I was also getting excited about the idea of a home birth. I looked up my health insurance online and it said it would cover it, but was very adamant about not paying more than one health care provider. So I figured I would meet with the Home Birth Center first. It took a few weeks to get an appointment, but we did and they were great. Then they told me my insurance regularly pays for less than 1/2 of what they charge. We're talking over $2000 out of pocket. Yikes. So frustrating, especially when I think about how much they must pay for a hospital birth. We did get to hear the baby's heartbeat there, but that was all they did since it was really just a consult.
By now it was feeling a little weird that I hadn't had an exam yet, so I called my previous CNM's office. She was taking new patients, so I figured let's just go and get the story from her. The next week (last week) we met with her. She is NOT delivering at Newport Hospital, but is delivering at a different, slightly farther away hospital that she really likes. Not as "fancy" and so far no water birth option (we are working on that one), but everything else she said sounded good. So that is the plan at the moment.
Tomorrow I go for a "dating" ultrasound in Providence so I will post more after that. Here we go again!
I'm proud to say I've been in a the secret for a couple of weeks now, but doesn't mean I can't publicly say CONGRATULATIONS! It's like riding a bicycle... ;) hahaha
ReplyDeleteWow! Congratulations. So it was "sort of" planned but not really... ha ha! Will enjoy following the story of the newest addition to your family like we did with Elena! So will you be updating here or in Pinterest or both or....???
ReplyDeleteIt was definitely planned, but I still changed my mind many times in between! Pinterest is just for links and products and stuff, so most personal info/photos will be here. Looking forward to blogging again!
ReplyDeleteWell, now! How exciting! Can't wait to read tomorrow's post!
