Updates

I've never been one for clothes shopping and am even less into buying clothes online, but I just placed my first order for maternity clothes at oldnavy.com. We are going to a wedding a week from Friday, so I ordered this dress in case I can't find anything else by then. I do plan on going to the mall (I can't even tell you the last time I went to a mall!) this weekend, but for $25, I figured this was worth a shot. We also have our assembly in November, so it might work for that too, with a sweater/jacket, of course. I also got a brown skirt that looks comfy and versatile and a non-maternity sweater that will probably go back unless I love it, but it qualified me for 10% off and free shipping.

Even though these are the first maternity clothes I've bought, they are not the first I've worn. My sister gave me a bunch of stuff and since the weather has turned cooler I have been basically living in the GapMaternity jeans and have also worn another pair of pants to work that are very comfy and a couple of the shirts. I can still get away with regular tops, especially those in a more flowy style. Skirts are getting trickier, and what do you about tights/stockings?

As far as the registry goes, thank you for the suggestions so far. Keep them coming. I will try to get more specific as well. I found this blog that has been helpful. I have started registries at Target and at amazon.com (this one is very random and I only put enough stuff on there to qualify for the sweepstakes). As you will see, I have two competing themes in my head for the nursery: Classic Pooh (also very gender neutral, seeing as how we don't know for sure) and sailboats (definitely more boy-oriented).

I have two matching dressers and a tall side table (with CD-sized drawers) and a coffee table (and a queen-size headboard) that are all in the "Santa Fe" Pier 1 style. If you know Pier 1, you know what I'm talking about. They change the name around and maybe the hardware, but they almost always have this type of line. So I'm thinking of getting a crib to match and either getting a changing table or making a top for one of the dressers. Of course, at first, I want the baby in the room with us, so I am also debating the co-sleeper/bassinet issue. I plan on asking my newest mom friend about that when I see her this weekend.

The other thoughts/concerns I have had are as follows: we have a small car (Honda) and a lot of reviews for strollers mention they are big and bulky, so I'm trying to keep that in mind. We would like to get a new car eventually, but who knows when. I would like a stroller that I can take to that walk by the water that we like that is partially paved and partially not.

I am also very into the wrap/sling idea particularly for meetings and such. I already have that protective thing kicking in and I like the idea of being able to keep the baby close and away from other people's little fingers and germs.

  1. go to http://marvelouskiddo.blogspot.com/ and check out her sling suggestions. also if you post a comment on her page (tell her i sent you) and ask her what carriers/slings she recommends, i know she'll help you. let her know your height/build, and that you're going to be carrying a newborn. i'll go look at your target registry.

  2. looks like you're doing a great job with the registry at target. my only thoughts: you don't need the bottle drying rack/organizer if you're breastfeeding. you won't be washing that many bottles at a time. also, i would suggest a travel system over the universal car seat stroller thing because you can use the stroller after he's bigger. everything else looks great.

also, i vote for the sailboats ... if it's truly a boy, that is. can you tell i already have a gift in mind?
